Synexis DHP in a Long-Term Care Facility
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Synexis LLC., Provides Continuous Microbial Reduction within
a Neurobehavioral Unit of Long-Term Care Facility
(Lenexa, KS) August 15, 2023 – Synexis LLC., continues to lead the way in indoor environmental quality with our patented Dry Hydrogen Peroxide (DHP®) technology. A recent study published in the American Journal of Infection Control (AJIC) and then shared within McKnight – Long Term Care News, featured a study highlighting the positive outcome of implementing Synexis DHP within a neurobehavioral unit of a Long-Term Care Facility (LTCF) in Rochester, NY.
Synexis DHP reduces bacteria, viruses, mold, and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) both in the air and on surfaces continuously within occupied spaces. The Synexis System can be applied as a stand-alone to specific spaces or it can be integrated into the HVAC duct system effectively and safely to reduce microbial threats in occupied spaces. The devices are currently implemented within 175 healthcare facilities across the United States.
The purpose of the study was to determine if Synexis DHP would be effective in microbial reduction without the need for additional healthcare staff. The neurobehavioral unit was chosen to conduct the study, because the unit has the biggest infection prevention challenges due to the residents’ cognitive deficits in terms of hand-washing and respiratory etiquette. The neurobehavioral unit also experienced a financial challenge due to multiple outbreaks that caused morbidity, mortality, and staff illness that caused the unit to be shut down multiple times.
There were 130 bacterial samples taken prior to the deployment of Synexis DHP from occupied patients’ rooms and common areas, and then again two months post deployment. The average number of bacteria on surfaces dropped by 62%, 87% and 90% on days 14, 28 and 55, respectively, but also demonstrated a statistically significant association of exposure to DHP. In other words, the Synexis System truly had a positive impact.1
In addition to microbial reduction on surfaces, Synexis DHP also caused a significant reduction in VOCs. VOCs at low levels from human waste and emanations within the healthcare setting can cause unpleasant odors and those VOCs emitted from chemicals, equipment and building materials in high levels can lead to respiratory problems. The longer the exposure to VOCs, the worse the exposure there is to the air we breathe. Synexis DHP was able to reduce VOCs within the unit by 99% improving the overall indoor air quality and providing odor control.2
About Synexis
Synexis mission since 2008 has been to make the air we breathe and the surfaces we touch continuously cleaner. Synexis is the industry leader in microbial reduction where our innovative Dry Hydrogen Peroxide (DHP) fights viruses, bacteria, mold, odors, and more. Our patented devices have undergone rigorous testing by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and were certified to meet UL2998 for zero ozone emissions. Our devices can run 24/7/365 within occupied spaces. We strive to improve Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) and are proud to support infection preventionists worldwide as a 2023 APIC Strategic Partner and were recently named one of the Top 10 Air Quality Solution Providers of 2023.
Synexis devices currently in use in the USA provide DHP coverage to more than 40 million square feet of indoor spaces in a variety of industries such as Healthcare, Education, Sports & Recreation, Food Services and many more. Our Synexis Systems are regulated by the US Environmental Protection Agency and state governments as devices. Synexis devices are produced in EPA registered facilities and packaged and labeled in accordance with EPA regulations appearing at 40 CFR 152.500. The effectiveness of our DHP technology is supported by data from many peer reviewed studies. Synexis turns the places and spaces we exist into healthy indoor environments, where we can all breathe a little easier.
